Welcome to Metropolis, an alternate Metropolis and Tempus found his way into it. A parallel universe where doubles of everyone exist, but tend to lead entirely different lives. Tempus kidnaps Lois and drops her in this universe, where she discovers that her alternate disappeared in the Congo years before. She finds Clark, but of course he has no idea who she is and since his parents died as a child he never became Superman. He is also engaged, to a very demanding woman by the name of Lana Lang, whom her Clark had recently been contacted by in their universe. Lois ends up teaching the alternate Clark how to become Superman, which is exactly what Tempus wanted, to expose the super hero and then rid him from the universe.

Unhappy with his other identity, figuring he will be dissected like a frog, Lana tells Clark that he has to choose between being Superman in this universe or being with her. He chooses Superman, and realizes he has feelings for Lois, who doesn't belong there.
